Acoustic Folk Art 1, Track 7, 02:55
Cigarettes Dancing
Made the last shot at the buzzer twice
Pictures in the paper
Well they sure were nice
On the cover of a magazine that year
Now could you just
Give me a job please sir
For we are cigarettes dancing
On the highway
Sparks hit the ground
And then they fly away
Moments of glory
Here then gone away
We are cigarettes dancing
On the highway
Put your faith in cash
And stocks and bonds
Funny how the money
Is so quickly gone
Climbed the ladder
Many call success
Found the hard way
It was made of glass
For we are cigarettes dancing
On the highway
Sparks hit the ground
And then they fly away
Moments of glory
Here then gone away
We are cigarettes dancing
On the highway
<harmonica break>
Wonder if there’s more to life than this
Wonder if there’s something
That I might just have missed
Could it be that old trade deficit
Has more to do with
What I give than what I get
For we are cigarettes dancing
On the highway
Sparks hit the ground
And then they fly away
Moments of glory
Here then gone away
We are cigarettes dancing
On the highway
For we are cigarettes dancing
On the highway
Sparks hit the ground
And then they fly away
Moments of glory

Song Notes
It's sometimes interesting where inspiration for a song comes from. On trips driving at night you may see someone toss a cigarette out their car window and when it hits the pavement it makes a tiny explosion like the 4th of July for bugs. I started thinking about how our lives are like that in some ways. In the book of Isaiah, the Bible says "The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:7-8 (NIV)
