Acoustic Folk Art 2, Track 5, 02:21
Fly On My Shoe
There’s a fly on my shoe
On my shoe, on my shoe
There’s a fly on my shoe
I can see it, I do
But my daughter, my daughter
With eyes summer blue
She shooed off that fly
That was there on my shoe
There’s a fly on my knee
On my knee, on my knee
There’s a fly on my knee
I can easily see
But my daughter, my daughter
My daughter named Brie
She waved off that fly
That was there on my knee
There’s a fly on my back
On my back, on my back
There’s a fly on my back
Where my shoulder blades tack
But my daughter, my daughter
With one solid whack
Disturbed that poor fly
That was there on my back
There’s a fly on my nose
On my nose, on my nose
There’s a fly on my nose
Just above the two holes
But my daughter, my daughter
Took our water hose
And she soaked that poor fly
That was there on my nose
There’s a fly on my shoe
On my shoe, on my shoe
There’s a fly on my shoe
I can see it, I do
But my daughter, my daughter
With eyes summer blue
She shooed off that fly
That was there on my shoe
There’s a fly on my shoe
On my shoe, on my shoe
There’s a fly on my shoe
I can see it, I do
But my daughter, my daughter
With eyes summer blue
She shooed off that fly
That was there on my shoe
There’s a fly on my knee
On my knee, on my knee
There’s a fly on my knee
I can easily see
But my daughter, my daughter
My daughter named Brie
She waved off that fly
That was there on my knee
There’s a fly on my back
On my back, on my back
There’s a fly on my back
Where my shoulder blades tack
But my daughter, my daughter
With one solid whack
Disturbed that poor fly
That was there on my back
There’s a fly on my nose
On my nose, on my nose
There’s a fly on my nose
Just above the two holes
But my daughter, my daughter
Took our water hose
And she soaked that poor fly
That was there on my nose
There’s a fly on my shoe
On my shoe, on my shoe
There’s a fly on my shoe
I can see it, I do
But my daughter, my daughter
With eyes summer blue
She shooed off that fly
That was there on my shoe
Song Notes
My daughter and I were sitting on the front porch of my wife's grandparents home when I wrote this little folk song. They lived in this small beautiful rock home in the Ozarks near Parthenon, Arkansas adjacent to the Little Buffalo river. They had a porch swing and it was just one of those perfect days. The words came fairly quickly for this one - which isn't the way it usually happens for me.
