Acoustic Folk Art 2, Track 2, 03:05
Ordinary Extraordinary
He loved to listen to her
Singing on the radio
The voice of an angel
With a matching heart of gold
Imagine his surprise
When he saw her standing there
In the park of his hometown
As the sun fell on her hair
He smiled and he mumbled hi
Sort of tucked his head
She looked at him, smiled back
And this is what she said
It’s ok, we can talk
Have a seat or take a walk
Listen up now, here’s a clue
I’m just an ordinary extraordinary
Person like you
She loved to watch him play
On their college team
He could fly through the air
Like someone in a dream
She walked into the lunch room
Scanned her eyes around
Looking for a place to sit
But nothing could be found
Then she saw an open chair
Right in front of him
He motioned come on over
Her head began to spin
It’s ok, we can talk
Have a seat or take a walk
Listen up now, here’s a clue
I’m just an ordinary extraordinary
Person like you
Wonder why we place
People on a hill
When the issues in our lives
Always match our skill
And there’s so much of life
We often rarely see
We’re just ordinary extraordinary
Both you and me
He walked into the classroom
As the last hour closed
He’d been hired as a tutor
They did not mind his crooked nose
A student walked up to him
Asked if he would lend a hand
She said I’ve been working
On this problem
That I still don’t understand
And no matter what I try
I don’t seem to get too far
But they say when it comes to math
You’re a real star
It’s ok, we can talk
Have a seat or take a walk
Listen up now, here’s a clue
I’m just an ordinary extraordinary

Song Notes
This is a song on the theme of recognizing in every ordinary one of us there is also the extraordinary. This isn’t an epiphany, but I do think we tend to underestimate ourselves more often than we overestimate our capabilities - though, of course, we do both. I like the way the bridge lyrics turned out on this tune. ...and there’s so much of life we often rarely see...
