Acoustic Folk Art 1, Track 8, 03:45
Sparkle Lady
Sparkle lady
You've been moving so, so fast
And I fear you're burning out
And I fear you're losing touch
But I know that in you somewhere
There's a very special girl
And I miss that girl
Oh so very much
You've become the kind of person
Who can say hi and not mean it
You've got so much charm
But it does so much harm
I wonder at how you can't see it
Your smile's a photographic plate
It’s so easy to duplicate
But how the image fades
When you’re alone
Sparkle lady
You've been moving so, so fast
And I fear you're burning out
And I fear you're losing touch
But I know that in you somewhere
There's a very special girl
And I miss that girl
Oh so very much
Be still and listen
To what you find
In the creases of your mind
You may be surprised
At what you hear
The very colors we possess
Coloring our emptiness
A stained glass window
Is hard to see through
Sparkle lady
You've been moving so, so fast
And I fear you're burning out
And I fear you're losing touch
But I know that in you somewhere
There's a very special girl
And I miss that girl
Oh so very much
Sparkle lady
You've been moving so, so fast
And I fear you're burning out
And I fear you're losing touch
But I know that in you somewhere

Song Notes
I was in college and single when I wrote this one. A year or two later I was taking guitar lessons from a talented gentleman named Jonathon Pointer who was living in Kansas City at the time. Our arrangement was that I gave him a cassette tape of my songs and paid him a small fee each lesson to help me find more interesting ways to chord them while keeping the melody. He came up with a really nice chord arrangement on this one with some Jim Croce-esk styled runs. Over the years, I've made other changes to the lyrics and structure. A song never seems finished to me. They're like stones that keep getting tumbled in a Missouri creek.
