Acoustic Folk Art 1, Track 9, 03:00
Wise Men And Warriors

Our curiosity
Seems like such blissfulness
We want to know
All of this world’s ways
We seek maturity
And lose our innocence
No more yesterday
No more yesterday

Wise men and warriors
Dying or slain

Half of our heroes
Seem to be on cocaine
Many messiahs
Have come and have died
Jesus, you’re the only Savior alive

When I was younger
I looked to others
For my direction and needs to fulfill
But we hurt each other
I soon discovered
There was an emptiness
Inside me still

Wise men and warriors
Dying or slain

Half of our heroes
Seem to be on cocaine
Many messiahs
Have come and have died
Jesus, you’re the only Savior alive

Funny how quickly
We want to leave home
Strange then how often
We feel we’re alone
There is a brother
Who stands next to you
And did what no other hero could do
Broke His own heart
Under the weight of our sin
Gave up His life, but He claimed it
He claimed it again

Wise men and warriors
Dying or slain

Half of our heroes
Seem to be on cocaine
Many messiahs
Have come and have died
Jesus, you’re the only Savior alive
Song Notes

This is a song I wrote back in my twenty something years.  I've always been surprised by the attention we give our heroes and the people we admire, though I do it also.  I guess we want to aspire to something better - something greater - and that's good, but we tend to forget that just because someone is good at one thing doesn't mean they are good at other things.  Most of us are probably better than our heroes at many things.  And we each fail and fall in our individual ways as well.  That's part of the human condition and why everyone is in need of redemption.
